Alabama State Code provides that the Sheriff of a county shall issue a qualified or unlimited license to a person residing in the county, and is a suitable person to be licensed.
Pistol Permits must be obtained from the county sheriff of your county of residence.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office offers this online service as a convenience to the community. In addition to the permit fee, the system will charge a per transaction fee for the convenience of applying and paying for your permit online. The convenience fee is not collected by the Sheriff. This fee is paid to the company that provides this order, payment and processing system to the public. You may use the PAY CASH OPTION only with our computer kiosk located at our office if desired when you fill out either the online NEW application or RENEWAL application. The cash option is not available when filling out the online application at any location other than our office. Cash will be collected from you in person after your permit has been approved and you come to our office for pickup. There is no convenience fee for the cash transaction.
